Avatar 2 (2014) set is Underwater

James Cameron is planning to shoot some footage seven miles underwater in the Challenger Deep, the deepest point of the Mariana Trench and also the deepest location on earth. The pressure at such a depth would be over 8 tons per square inch - far beyond the capabilities of even the most advanced Russian military subs, which can handle only 1,600 pounds per square inch.

Actress Michelle Rodriguez says "Avatar 2" will take viewers underwater and will be extraordinarily beautiful. Rodriguez, who starred in the original, told The Associated Press in an interview Thursday that she has no clue yet whether she will be asked to play a role in the sequel. But she said she hopes creator James Cameron will at least invite her to the set to watch it being made.

Going underwater seems to be a running theme for Cameron, who helped produce the 3-D underwater cave adventure "Sanctum." Rodriguez has been promoting her latest film "Battle: Los Angeles" about aliens attacking California. Rodriguez, who plays an Air Force sergeant, says the film pays homage to troops.
