List of Fish High in Mercury

Fish may be the healthiest foods you can eat containing good fats and protein. However, you can easily cancel out these health benefits if the fish you eat is contaminated with mercury. Following is the list of the top fish containing mercury.

Bluefin Tuna: Many varieties of tuna contain mercury, but the levels may be higher in bluefin tuna, which are also overfished. Tuna has also been found with nuclear radiation from the Japanese Nuclear Incident.

Tilefish: Tilefish are high in mercury.

Swordfish: Like many larger species, swordfish is high in mercury.

Shark: Shark meat contains high levels of mercury.

Chilean Sea Bass: Like orange roughy, Chilean Sea Bass are both overfished and contains mercury.

Orange Roughy: Orange Roughy is high in mercury—and also overfished.

King Mackere: King Mackerel tends to contain high levels of mercury.

Farmed Eel: Farmed Eel is potentially high in PCBs and mercury.
